Arnold Blackgoat Fox Turquoise Sterling Tobacco Canteen

Tobacco canteens were an item used in the Old West to carry tobacco for rolling cigarettes. These have been made by Navajo silversmiths since the end of the nineteenth century. This is a very nice, full-sized rendition with fine, symmetrical stampwork, a tight-fitting stopper and set with stones of natural, untreated Fox turquoise. If you roll your own, this is a practical item for daily use. In any event, this is a gorgeous collector's item replica of a bit of Americana.

Hallmarked BLKGT and stamped Sterling on the spout (can be seen when the stopper is removed)
