Nora Tahe Bill Cold Chisel Sculpted Overlay Bracelet size 7 1/4"

Navajo silversmith Nora Tahe Bill is the wife of silversmith Emerson Bill. Her maiden name, Tahe, identifies her as a member of a very large Navajo family known for its prolific silversmithing members. Nora's specialty is deeply-stamped Sterling bracelets with a lightly brushed finish.

This bracelet by Nora is made in her usual overlay technique but it is not characterized by the readily recognizable motifs of native stamping or her chisel work. This one has beautiful stamping along the edges within the deep chisel work (a detail often seen in Harrison Jim's ingot work). This is extremely heavyweight overlay jewelry. In this technique the top layer's design is sculpted with a cold chisel. This allows the smith to get beveled edges and cut out angles that couldn't be achieved with a saw or stamps. At first glance this work appears to be very deep stampwork, but stamps won't cut this deep. This visual effect is characterized by dramatic relief and bold designs. As a result, this cuff is extremely thick and absolutely indestructible. Beautiful understatement; an absolute winner.

Hallmarked "NORA" and stamped "STERLING" inside.

Width of cuff: 1/2"

Terminal to terminal: 5 7/8"

Gap: 1 3/8"

Total inside circumference (including gap): 7 1/4"
