This beautifully carved sandcast bracelet may initially seem a bit whimsical, but it draws on Nahuatl mythical images of jaguars from Aztecan culture. When Monty and I spoke about this he seemed surprised that I recognized the origin of these cats and he said that this was a tribute to that portion of his ancestry which is Nahuatl and not Navajo. These jaguars are wonderfully stylized and are mythic in the fashion they are portrayed. Monty oxidized the background on this cuff so that the carved ridges of the cats play across this surface. In addition, he created a rolled lip on each of the edges of this cuff which he burnished to a high shine.
This cuff is two inches wide at the center of the bracelet and tapers to one inch wide at the gap. Another detail that marks its superior workmanship is that the cuff is perfectly uniform in its thickness. You'll love the solid feel and heft of this piece due to its weight of 132.4 grams.
Hallmarked on the outside of the cuff at one of the terminals M. CLAW in script alongside his pictographic owl hallmark and stamped STERLING.
