Manuel Hoyungwa is a Hopi overlay artist from Hotevilla on Third Mesa. Greg Schaaf, in his book American Indian Jewelry I: 1,200 Artist Biographies, refers to him as a "...a master Hopi jeweler...." and the "...technical precision of his work is outstanding." Certainly Schaaf's comments are illustrated in this piece. This pronghorn antelope manages to be well-defined with elements of shading which would not seem possible through silverwork. Traditional Hopi geometric symbols are also present.
Hallmarked with a pictographic hallmark, which Schaaf refers to as a "strong rain cloud," a copyright symbol and stamped "Sterling" on back. See a closeup of this hallmark in our Artist section under the letter H.
