In early May 2006 we had a most pleasant initial contact with James and Doris Coriz. This husband and wife duo from Santa Domingo Pueblo makes very traditional jewelry in the Santo Domingo style consisting of turquoise and shell prepared by hand. They use the best stabilized Kingman turquoise and carefully selected shells which yield products which are characterized by perfect execution made from superior materials. We are delighted to have established this new source of classic Santo Domingo jewelry made in the old way.
This is a classic Santo Domingo double-strand tab necklace. The tabs, or "corn", are made from white mussel shell. The strand are made up of hand-turned stabilized Kingman turquoise disk beads. These turquoise beads are graduated in diameter and show wonderful color and matrix. Above the turquoise disk beads, rice beads of red coral finish off the strands at Sterling beads and cones. The turquoise beads were cut from large rocks of rough Kingman turquoise, drilled and hand-turned to perfection. This is, of course strung on traditional beading string for perfect hand and movement.
If fastened to be worn at its shortest length, this measures 15". A three-inch Sterling extension chain allows this to be worn up to 18" in length.
Kingman disk beads: 1/8" to 5/16" diameter; 1/16" to 1/8" running length
Length: 15" + 3" extension chain
