Harry H. Begay has been smithing silver for over 35 years. He is best known for his traditional hammered ingot work. This belt buckle represents one of the rare items that he makes from Sterling sheet silver. Applying his perfect stamping skills to this convex oval with sculpted, scalloped edges, he has created the perfect traditonal belt buckle set with a gorgeous stone. This thick and high-domed, egg-shaped stone of natural, untreated Royston turquoise from Nevada is set in a straight-edged bezel wrapped with twist wire. This buckle is made to fit standard-width western belts of 1 1/2". Hallmarked "HHB" over a left pointing arrow. Biographical information and photographic examples of Harry's work can be found on page 74 of Greg Schaaf's recently-published book American Indian Jewelry I: 1,200 Artist Biographies.
