Navajo silversmith Ernest Rangel is best known for his sandcast work. Carving molds from tufa (a type of limestone), he then embellishes his pieces with decorative aspects and various stones or coral.
This slimline bracelet consists of a very thick cuff made from a sandcast mold to which Ernest added a lightning bolt which wraps around the front of the cuff. This lightning bolt stands in stark relief to the heavily oxidized background. The thickness of the cuff is literally 1/8", which would correspond to the thickness of heavy ten-gauge silver. Beautifully done!
