Derrick Gordon is a young Navajo silversmith in his mid-twenties who learned to smith silver from his uncle Delbert Gordon. We have watched him make great strides in his design and compositional skills over the last three years.
This is a modification of one of Derrick's uncle Delbert's designs (see Delbert's version). In Derrick's rendition, the same four lengths of triangle wire form the cuff, but the width is slimmed down dramatically. While this version is still a split cuff with the lengths of triangle wire fused at the terminals, These triangle wires nearly touch each other and and give the illusion of a solid cuff. The double fanned scallop appliquéesframing the stone are seemingly tacked to the cuff by starred buttons and scrollwork ornaments this cluster. The stone is a vivid blue oval of natural, untreated Turquoise Mountain turquoise from Arizona. It is set in a straight-edged bezel wrapped with twist wire .
