Born in Gallup, New Mexico in 1971, Derrick Gordon is a prolific young silversmith who is the father of three daughters (the youngest born earlier in 2003). He learned to smith silver from his uncle Delbert Gordon. He is accomplished in many aspects of the trade and makes fine rings, bracelets, earrings, pins, pendants and more. This gorgeous pendant shows off a thick teardrop of blue and green natural, untreated Royston turquoise from Nevada. The stone is set in a 3/16" bezel wrapped with twist wire, while radiating ridges and round wire scrollwork decorate the border surrounding the stone. The bale of the pendant is nicely stamped with traditional motifs and this piece has been oxidized to give it an old-style finish which highlights the texture of the decorative elements. Given the size of this pendant and the size of the bale, it really goes best with Erma Arviso's Sterling beads of 7 mm. or 8 mm. diameter. Stamped "Sterling" and hallmarked "Derrick" on the back of the pendant. Stone: 15/16" x 11/16" Dimensions of pendant (excluding bale & jump ring): 1 7/16" x 1 1/4" Total hang (including bale): 2 1/8" |
