Born in Gallup, New Mexico in 1971, Derrick Gordon is a prolific young silversmith who is the father of three daughters (the youngest born earlier in 2003). He learned to smith silver from his uncle Delbert Gordon. He is accomplished in many aspects of the trade and makes fine rings, bracelets, earrings, pins, pendants and more.

This ring was inspired by a design of Stanley Parker's. We had a particularly good group of stones of relatively large size which begged to be set in rings with large decorative elements which would call further attention to each of the stones. We wanted these rings to be a bit flamboyant and so we asked Derrick to borrow Stanley's accordioned fan at top and bottom with flanking starred buttons. And these came out just right; a touch Art Deco and still essentially traditional. The shank is formed by four lengths of round wire which are spread before attaching to the ring back and stamped appliqueés adorn the sides over the split shank. This is a supremely comfortable wearing shank. This holds a long rectangle of natural Pilot Mountain turquoise from Nevada. This is tightly webbed stone of superb coloration. The stone is set in a straight-edged bezel. Twisted square wire and raindrops form a border around the stone, while the fans and starred buttons elongate the shape of the ring and further frame the oval. This ring is a guaranteed "eye magnet" and you will definitely get compliments on the stone and the design.
