Darryl Becenti is an accomplished Navajo silversmith who is particularly good at combining various stamps to produce complex, evocative stampwork designs. When setting turquoise in his jewelry, he always uses fine, natural stones.
We're most partial to these large wide cuffs made by Darryl with one over-sized stone. Darryl's uses only the finest stones for these pieces; large shapes that can carry the weight of the piece by virtue of color, quality and size, while at the same time leaving huge areas of softly curving silver for Darryl to show his expert stampwork. This piece is done in the same style that Darryl has used in the past to create very large single-stone pendants. The stone is set in a wide 3/16" bezel and surrounded by heavy studded starred buttons. This is a superb specimen of natural King's Manassa turquoise showing soft blue, light green and deep green cloud. The finely webbed golden matrix is a classic characteristic of this Colorado turquoise and one of the things that makes this stone so desirable. The surface of this stone is flat and polished to a lustrous shine. The edge of the cuff is sculpted and wonderfully highlighted by scallop stampwork. Just one large perfect stone in combination with exquisitely traditional design and stampwork.
Note on sizing: The gap on this piece could easily be made 1/8" smaller or larger. But, because a wide cuff such as this covers such a large swath of the wrist, it must fit the largest part of the wrist as it thickens with muscle in moving towards the elbow. In all likelihood, this cuff will best fit the wrist of someone who wears a size 6" or 6 1/8" in a typical one-inch width bracelet.
