Calvin Martinez is consistently one of our favorite ringmakers and excels in every one of his smithing endeavors. While his work is hard to come by, every once in awhile we catch him at just the right moment. This is a large ring set with a large stone. At the heart of this ring is a free-form stone of vivid blue turquoise. This turquoise is natural, untreated stone from China which is sold under the trade name "Blue Ridge." This is not to be confused with the Blue Ridge Turquoise Mine in Lander County, Nevada which is also the source of Orvil Jack turquoise. This is a fine blue turquoise which exhibits a creamy translucence and light-colored matrix. The stone is set in straight-edged bezel with a lip forming a shadowbox around the stone and twist wire defining the border of the ring face. If you're interested in this, take a moment to make a quick sketch based on the dimensions cited below. When we receive returns on items like this it is usually because the buyer did not take into account the true dimensions of such a piece and is overwhelmed by the size of the piece. If you like "big rock" rings and have the finger size for this one, you won't be disappointed! The shank is split into four narrower bands before attaching to the ring back and is marked by stampwork. Hallmarked "C.MTZ" inside an arrowhead and stamped "Sterling" on the ring back.
