This is a volume designed particularly for the collector. The majority of the book consists of biographies of artists accompanied by black and white photographs of examples of their work. There are an additional forty pages of full-color plates in the beginning of the book picturing historic and contemporary work. This is the first volume of three, with the next volume slated for publication in 2004. To my knowledge, this is the only contemporary book of its type--seeking to catalogue and create an archival field guide to past smiths and contemporary silversmiths, replete with photos of the artists and, oftentimes, photos of their hallmarks. This is a "must" for the serious collector.
This web site contributed a number of photographs to the book and, not coincidentally, I've chosen to highlight some of those contributions in the gallery photos above. Some of the pieces photographed by chacodog.com and appearing in the book are still available on this web site. Some of the artists who appear in this book and whose work is available on this site are Calvin Martinez, Harry Morgan, Henry Morgan, Linda Marble, Darrel Cadman, Aaron Toadlena, Albert Cleveland, Herbert Cayanito, Fred Francis, Gary Reeves, Sunshine Reeves, Oscar Alexius, Bobby Francis, Herman Smith & Harry H. Begay.
The quality of the pictures above was limited by the quality of my scanner and my ability to use it correctly. Photos in the book are crystal clear. As a favor to us, Greg signs each of our books and, so, these are signed first editions.
