Navajo silversmith Albert Jake was born in 1959 at Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. He has been smithing silver for over fifteen years. Albert is renowned for the precise detail and execution of his work and for the fine natural stones which he always employs in his pieces.
Chacodog has made a concerted effort over time to offer a stock of rings across all size ranges which feature high-quality stones and emphasize traditional design. But our experience in buying rings from the various silversmiths has taught us that simply buying the nice rings made available to us hasn't always resulted in our being able to stock the sizes most sought after by our clientele. At best, maintaining stock in various sizes of rings (particularly smaller sizes) has been subject to the seemingly willy nilly production of rings with little attention paid to those sizes which are most in demand. We sought to institute a program which would remedy this situation and this, of course, caused us to get more involved in production. We wanted these rings to be made with fine, natural turquoise, they needed to be made in all sizes and we wanted a solid ring that would be particularly comfortable and durable, while being very traditional in its styling. We chose a design which Albert Jake has made in the past, but we had him make the shank with heavier 14 gauge Sterling. Weighting the shank like this with heavier silver sheet material offsets the weight of the stone and counters the tendency of a ring to roll on the finger as the anchoring weight of the shank tends to lend stability. We hand-picked every stone and included a group of thick, high-domed stones of Number Eight turquoise which we bought at the Tucson Gem Show in February 2007, as well as some stones of natural Persian turquoise which we bought as rough rock and had cut into settable stones (by Chris Nieto of Santo Domingo Pueblo). Prices are based on the carat weight of the stone set in each ring. We hope you like the results and find something to your liking in your size. This is just a beginning....
This is a classic design ring with split shank and the stone set in a straight-edged bezel. Twist wire is wrapped around the stone's bezel and forms the border of the ring face. The shank is wide on the sides and split into four bands with two raindrops and one starred button decorating the shank on each side of the stone. This ring holds a fat, egg-shaped stone of natural, untreated Royston turquoise from Nevada.
Hallmarked "A JAKE" and stamped "Sterling" on the inside of the back of the shank.
