Albert Jake was born in 1959 at Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. He has been smithing silver for over fifteen years and is also a sand painter and makes pottery. He is one of our preferred smiths because he is exacting in his trade, easy to work with and always uses the finest materials.
This is a classic cross with a finely sculpted edge and very intricate stampwork. The Spanish influence in the design is apparent, but Albert has used this Spanish influence and put his own special turn on it. He set a group of five oval cabochons of deep crimson Mediterranean red coral to define the arms of the cross. At the center of the cross, he used a square of red coral rotated to present a diamond shape. Four rounds of Mediterranean red coral are arrayed around the center of the cross to lend visual weight and richness.
Hallmarked "A JAKE" all in capital letters and stamped "Sterling" on back. Red Coral: (5) ovals 3/8" x 7/32"; diamond 1/4" x 1/4"; (4) round 5/32" diameter
Dimensions of cross (exluding jump ring & bale): 2 1/4" x 1 3/4"
Total hang: 2 7/8" This looks great on Erma Arviso's beads. Based on the size of this cross and its bale, we feel it looks best on Erma's beads of 6 mm. or 7 mm. diameter. |
