Albert Jake was born in 1959 at Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. He has been smithing silver for over fifteen years and is also a sand painter and makes pottery. We began buying Albert's pieces in 1999. He always uses fine quality stones in his work. This is a large ring, both in terms of the size of the stone and the size finger it will fit. Albert made this at our behest using heavy 12-gauge Sterling and this large stone of natural, untreated Bisbee turquoise. The stone is set in a 3/16" straight-edged bezel wrapped with twist wire. The border of the ring face is made using half-round Sterling wire which is stamped deeply with small scallops and grooved at the top and bottom by stamps and additional file work. The shank is split into five narrower bands before attaching to the ring back and and each of these narrow bands is beveled to soften the visual aspect. The Sterling has a soft matte finish and an oxidizing agent was used to heighten the contrast of the stampwork. The stone was cut for us by Bruce Mead. Hallmarked "A JAKE" and stamped "Sterling" inside the shank. Stone: 1 1/4" x 1/2" Weight of stone: 20 carats Ring face: 1 11/16" x 15/16" Width of shank in back: 7/16" Size: 11 1/4
